After my experience with a Hewitt Packard printer which, just months out of warranty, announced that it was out of ink and continued to insist it lacked ink no matter how many times I replaced the expensive cartridges, I swore that I would never buy another Hewitt Packard product.

At the local Staples store I printed a sample page from every printer available under the $200 price level. The quality of the Hewlett-Packard was so much better than any other that, quite reluctantly, I left with the HP 8600 which, of course, uses a totally different ink cartridge.

I am still angry with Hewlett-Packard for the approximately $80 worth of full but unusable 7160 ( 02 type cartridges) ink I have left over.

I thought I would bring them to the meeting on Monday and see if anyone would make me an offer. How's twenty bucks?

Well, I bit the bullet, and got the new MBP, even though google seems to indicate that folks are still complaining about image retention problems with 2013 Retina MBPs with LG display panels.

This morning I issued the magic incantation to find out whether my new toy has a Samsung or LG panel and was happy to find out it IS a Samsung.

Does anyone know if Apple is still using the LG displays with the newest 2013 Retina MBP or if this problem is still an issue for new ones?

Like I said, for display only (and for all documents), not to be saved with the document. So for example, I want wrapped line spacing to be 1.3x and to have an extra 12 pixels between paragraphs (line feeds) throughout the document. This greatly improves readability and visual appeal. To get an idea of how this can work, check this out: http://www.foldingtext.com/ and click on "watch movie" -- not the line spacing I want, but this is just plain text! Another example is TaskPaper, but I don't think it has a slick video.

There seems to be a new bundle of Mac apps on the market almost every week. StackSocial is promoting their 2nd "Name Your Own Price Mac Bundle", where you can get the full bundle of 10 apps if you meet or exceed the average price paid for the bundle (currently ~$9.71). The advertised value of the apps is $399, & the recommended price for the bundle is $49. Take a look at the bundle at https://stacksocial.com/sales/the-name-your-own-price-mac-bundle-2-0?rid=169425 .

If you pay less than the average, you get 3 apps: HoudahSpot, PhotoBulk, & Elmedia Player Pro. If you meet or exceed the average, you also get CrossOver 12, Mac Blu-ray Player, DiskTools Pro, Snapz Pro X, Gemini, Paperless, and Musictube.

If any of these apps are worthwhile to you, it's a pretty good bargain. The deal ends on May 1.

Hi Darren,

According to Mactracker ( http://www.mactracker.ca/ ), the original Mac mini ("Twiggy") shipped with OS X 10.3.7, so OS 9 is not necessary for it to run. It's stated that the maximum OS able to run this 1.25 or 1.42 GHz G4 PowerPC Mac is 10.5.8. It also states that the maximum RAM is 1 GB (PC-2700), it has a 40 or 80 GB HD, & a DVD/CD-RW Combo or SuperDrive.

I'm working on a literary analysis paper for a class had have typed copious notes for a poem that I'm writing about. Those notes are somewhere in my computer but I cannot seem to find them. I thought I typed them in MacJournal, was almost certain of it, but I cannot seem to find them there. My next place would have been in a Pages document. I cannot seem to get Spotlight to find this text that I KNOW is in my computer. Then again, I've never been able to get much assistance using Spotlight for much of anything.

So I'm looking in the App Store to see if I can find an app that does a better job, but I don't seem to be able to find anything there. Can anyone recommend an app that has a multilayered search, possibly even boolean search capabilities?

Thanks!

Most of these "speed up tools" only help you if you have a real mess to begin with.

Clear out your browser caches. Try other browsers. I use Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. Picking the one that best fits what I'm doing. Chrome for Flash thus I can not install it for anything else as it is "baked" into Chrome. Apple's store via Safari. Also Facebook and little else on Safari so Facebook doesn't get to track most of my surfing. Etc...

Low memory will cause a lot of streaming and downloading issues. Use Activity Monitor / System Memory tab and see what Free has at the bottom. When under 100MB things can act sluggish. Under 20 real issues with all programs. You can also leave it up during the day and see what programs are using a lot of real memory. Click on the RSIZE column heading to sort all the big ones to the top of the list.

I watch a few TV shows online, and I frequently run into problems of slow downloads and waiting for video buffering. Other than getting away from DSL (which I plan to do very soon), are there any better apps to clean up my iMac and make it run smoother? I've been using MemoryClean and CCleaner from the App Store, and they are okay, but not great.

Has it "attached" itself to a Bluetooth head set or hands free speaker setup. If I leave my car Bluetooth on it can grab control if I'm in one corner of my house.

Can you hear someone on a call via the speaker option or a headset?

Turn up volume WHILE on a call.

If you play something can you hear it via the speakers or a headset? TuneIn radio or similar?

Power phone off then back on.

Reset phone. Hold down Home button and sleep/power button for 5 or 10 seconds.

I was on a phone call tonight and lost the audio. I was talking with someone for over a half an hour and then literally there was no audio after that. I've tried making several calls since then and the person on the other end of the line can hear me but I hear nothing. Needless to say, this is slightly problematic, especially considering I don't have time to go to the Apple store tomorrow. And it's too late to call AppleCare tonight. Oh, and come to think of it, I couldn't actually talk to them even if it weren't too late . . .

Can anybody give me suggestions for what to do??
