I realize that the "Air" is not end user upgradeable, but can the memory or the SSD of the new Air models be upgraded in capacity by an authorized technician or are the factory build options the only chance to choose the configuration?

Fred as far as I understand they are not upgradable as the Flash memory and the Ram are soldered onto the motherboard.
The SSD drives are removable. But they use a new connector/interface standard so it will be a while before 3rd parties have upgrades out. Everything else is pretty much a non-modifiable lump.
Thanks David -- I knew the previous Air models could be easily upgraded with 3rd party SSD's, but was unsure about the new ones. This will save me a bunch of $s in up front expense.
