   good news everyone

   We Mac users have the app store, before that version tracker, TMUG (of course), tons of other places for find out about software. Question - where do PC users get software, reputably? I just brought my mom a cheap laptop, and would like to load her up with some software, but I don't even know where to get it.

   Any help?

   I'm looking for Photoshop knock off, games, Word processor - page layout. photo storage. I don't have a lot of money to spend but don't want ripped off (virus, mal/spy ware loaded software) either.

   Any ideas?

   Open office is a good MS office alternative and its free. As David said cnet.com is a good source.

   For various reasons, I would suggest LibreOffice rather than OpenOffice.

   For Ps knockoffs, I'd try Pinta and GIMP.

   Picasa works OK for photo management.

   All of the above happen to be cross platform for Windows, Linux and Mac.
