--Q and A - 8-11-08--

TMUG Q and A Sessions are a group effort - Leader facilitates answers from the group. It is a lot of fun and that's why there are multi-answers. No promises that these solutions will work for you.

Q. G5 and 10.5 - start up issues. After login - something is missing - something to do with midi.

A. Create another user account and see if there is a problem with login to the new account. Sometimes that will let you know if a piece of software needs to be updated - reinstalled.

A. Could be a GarageBand issue

A. Take a screen shot and send to the group - everyone know how to take a screen shot.

command shift 3 = whole screen command shift 4 = part of a screen (for additional search keyboard shortcuts in help)

Q. Services menu - What works there?

A. Must select something - once that has happened you'll see available options not grayed out.

Q. Apple Mail how to delete auto fill names in mail - mass delete names

A. It is difficult to do since there aren't many selection fields. The list is at

mail.app menu bar -- window ---> previous recipients.

Q. Entourage to gmail questions. Can an iPod sync with Google calendar.

A. look on-line for calDAV from google. Subscribe to a google calendar with iCal - that will let you sync to your iPod. This is one way.

Plaxo is an option. Plaxo coordinates with many services.

Q. 2nd Monitor won't wake - Intel core-2-duo iMac. - mouse disappears.

A. Detect displays. System Prefs. (OMG he called system prefs - control panel, group boo) put icon on menu bar - wait that won't if screen won't wake.

Click on detect displays and OS X might turn on the display.

Log out and log back in. (display prefs are by user should be reset on log out and login)

cmmd-shift-q logs you out.

Q. iPhone question - no to-do lists - recommendations for do-to list

a. Omnifocus - might be more than you need Splashshopper - here

That ends tonight's Q and A - on to the Swap Meet
