Stefan's Reply to Cort's Q on mail server

Outgoing server for XCom: on the road, port 25 is not blocked so you can go straight to the server; if blocked, can't go to the server. port 25 is open, you are rerouted to their mailserver's port 25, in that case, you are then at the mercy of their configuring Port 25 correctly.

Open Terminal in Utilities folder; type in telnet mx.tmug.org 25 in the prompt, then hit return. You are then connected to our mailserver, and it is waiting for you to send an email. If there is no response, the port is blocked. If the answer is from a different mailserver, it means you are being routed through that different mailserver.

Reports from Stefan

Old Mail Server is now shut down. Chips will unsubscribe and subscribe to the mail list as a test to insure that new subscriptions will work.

Chips did a test subscription to TMUG-list. It works properly.

Program Committee Meeting

Seven attended: Alec Whittaker, Fred Lampe, Frank Crigler, Charles Mangum, Carl Ebhardt, and chairman Cort. Report in email to be posted later.

Suggestion from Chips: for June meeting, after the WWDC keynote speech earlier that day, have someone report on the speech. They will be giving out Leopard beta versions; developers attending will be able to take home a copy.

June Meeting: Digital Photography. Panel is Alex, Jeff Cole, Dick Schenck, and possibly Cort. [see email]

July Meeting: demo on iPhone and possibly Leopard Preview

August Meeting: Using Google the Great--the breadth of Google today.

Other Meeting Ideas: Stefan asked about a traditional swap meet in July; Chips said it used to be in January. Breaking into groups (as we did last January) is another suggestions from Stefan. GPS for the Mac Digital Rights Management Paul Gilster columnist in N&O who writes about computers

Allen advised that we have predominately Macintosh programs.

One to One Training

New Possibilities

Stefan suggested some type of one-to-one function in TMUG. Extended ideas included member asking Mac Professionals offering services for members at reduced price-limited time, or some such combination. The rewards would be for the Mac Pros finding new customers and for members to find Pros to work with.

Raffles

WIFI Router -- Stefan still working on it. High Priced Raffle--may need vote of membership to spend the money. [Anything over $500, according to our ByLaws] Apple Base Station, appleTV. and Video iPod ($249 have been suggested. Other ideas: flat screen monitor, GPS system.

Vote taken on buying appleTV as next raffle item. Unanimous approval.

Door Prizes

Chips said some good items at Office Depot.
