GarageBand ’11

For this month’s meeting, we will have a presentation on GarageBand. Micah Berman & Daniel Wood (Apple certified training experts from the local Apple Store) will be on hand to show us the multitude of music making things that can be done with Apple’s consumer recording studio app, including composing, recording, mixing, mastering, sharing you own songs. And if you don’t know how to play, you can use GarageBand to take lessons to play guitar & piano right on your Mac. GarageBand comes as part of iLife, or you can download it separately from the Mac App Store for the Mac or iPad.
We had hoped to have TMUG friend & Apple Systems Engineer Francis Shepherd make a
presentation on Lion, Apple’s latest OS X release, at the August meeting. However, Francis has other commitments. We have asked Francis to come to the September 12th meeting and tell us about all the new features provided by Lion, which Macs will support it, how to do the installation, and about the caveats that Lion introduces. Put the date on your calendar to learn all about Lion.
TMUG’s new WordPress published site has replaced our “old” wiki based site. If you haven’t already registered for the forum, don’t put it off any more. The forum is the new
method for our TMUG community to communicate opinions, comments, & questions. As noted above, the TMUG-list has ceased publishing. The TMUG-list archive of posts over the past 6+ years may eventually be published on our new server. Any content from the old server may be available, but on a limited, off-line, by appointment only basis. It will not be discarded.
Keep checking TMUG.org, or our presence on Meetup, Twitter, or Facebook, (but not our long-standing Mailman tmug-list, which went off-line on August 5) for updates & details. We hope that TMUG members & participants will remain with us at our new home.
It wouldn’t be a TMUG meeting without our lively yet informative Q&A session. Bob Chandler will be there to moderate the discussion. There will be some door prize drawings for TMUG members, too.
You don’t have to have a TMUG membership to attend TMUG meetings or to subscribe to TMUG-list, but a member will grant you greater access to our services. And it will likely give you a warm feeling inside. Join or renew your TMUG membership for only $35 for a full year. You may pay with cash, check, or most major credit cards at a monthly meeting, and, using our Square card reader for iPhone, you will get an email receipt from Square. TMUG will absorb the transaction fees using this new payment system as a convenience to members. You may also join or renew by mail by completing a membership application & sending your check to our PO box.
We hope you will join us at Caldwell Hall on the NCSU campus on August 8, 2011!
