iOS 5 — Apple’s mobile operating system
We will take a look at iOS 5 at the November meeting. This latest update for newer iPhone, iPad, & iPod Touch (iOS devices) offers over 200 new features. iOS 5.0.1 was released November 10, resolving a few issues, including battery performance. iOS 5 is tightly integrated with iCloud, Apple’s new internet “cloud” storage. Smythe Richbourg will lead the discussion. He will show the iOS 5 features on iPad & iPhone. If you have questions about iOS 5, they will likely be answered at the meeting. And if you have any tips that you have learned, bring them to share, too.
TMUG likes to spotlight and promote local Mac / iOS developers and businesses. Christian Miller of Pariahware (and a TMUG member) will demonstrate a couple of his apps: Dictionary Editor – to easily edit your OS X dictionary, & Biblicious – a Bible trivia game show app for iOS devices. We plan to spotlight other local devs at upcoming meetings. Add the November 14 TMUG meeting to your iCal calendar.
Looking ahead, the December 12 TMUG meeting will be our annual multi-early-winter holiday celebration. We will have a variety of foods, show member suggested Apple related videos, and have a raffle with 4 or 5 prizes. If you have a favorite Apple, Mac, iPod, iPhone, or iPad video you would like to share, please suggest it via this forum post. And be sure to put 12.12.11 on your calendar, too!

TMUG’s MacBook Air membership contest is ongoing. The contest has a multiple purpose – to celebrate and promote TMUG’s new web presence, and as a membership drive. And the prize for the winner will be a new Apple 11″ MacBook Air (or Apple product of equivalent value at the end of the contest). The contest will be similar to the iMac giveaway contest we held 3 years ago. Members will get points for renewing, attending meetings, & participating on the forum. TMUG members may start earning points now. Details are published on the MacBook Air Contest web page.
A regular feature of each TMUG meeting is the usually informative Q&A session. Bob Chandler will be on hand to moderate the discussion. Bring your questions for the group to try and answer. If you are a TMUG member, be sure to get a ticket for the door prize drawings, too.
Keep checking TMUG.org, or our presence on Meetup, Twitter, or Facebook for updates & details. We hope that TMUG members & other folks in our community will participate in the forum at our new home.
You don’t have to have a TMUG membership to attend TMUG meetings or to subscribe to TMUG-list, but a member will grant you greater access to our services, including entries in our MacBook Air contest. And it will likely give you a warm feeling inside. Join or renew your TMUG membership for only $35 for a full year. You may pay with cash, check, or most major credit cards at a monthly meeting, and, using our Square card reader for iPhone, you will get an email receipt from Square. TMUG will absorb the transaction fees using this new payment system as a convenience to members. You may also join or renew by mail by completing a membership application & sending your check to our PO box.
We hope you will join us at Caldwell Hall on the NCSU campus on November 14, 2011!
